Living Fully NOW: Adding Texture to Our Lives

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what gives life texture. It's not busyness, not a packed calendar, not even simply having a variety of experiences.
Texture is something deeper.
To me, a textured life is one that is rich with different places, different people, and different experiences that awaken different parts of who we are.
Some moments bring peace. Others bring joy. Some make us laugh until our stomachs hurt. Others stir curiosity, adventure, gratitude, nostalgia, wonder, or even quiet reflection.
That’s texture.
It’s the emotional richness that comes from living a life that isn’t one-dimensional.
Tonight, I added a little more texture to my life. I hosted a Game Night.
We played Spades and Rummy with old-school music from the 90s playing in the background. It was coed, and as I looked around the room, I realized I hadn’t done anything like this in...forever.
It wasn’t extravagant. There were no elaborate decorations or expensive entertainment. Just good people, great conversation, friendly competition, and music that carried us back to another time. The laughter was constant.
By the end of the night, we all agreed: “That was so much fun.”
We’re already planning to make it a quarterly tradition, rotating from house to house. As I cleaned up afterward, I realized something. We weren’t just playing cards. We were adding life to our days. That’s what texture does.
It reminds us that we’re more than workers, caretakers, parents, professionals, or people checking things off a list. We’re human beings created to experience life. To connect. To celebrate. To rest. To explore.
To create memories that become part of who we are.
I think we sometimes underestimate how much our souls need variety—not just in what we do, but in what we feel.
Peace has its place. So does excitement. Joy. Wonder. Contentment. Adventure. Laughter.
A meaningful life isn’t built from one emotion repeated over and over. It’s woven from many. That’s what gives it texture.
So this week, ask yourself:
What could I do to add a little more texture to my life?
Maybe it’s inviting friends over...or just one friend.
Maybe it's reading about something that interests you instead if doom scrolling.
Maybe it's watching the sunrise or sunset.
Maybe it's camping or glamping.
Or trying a new restaurant or a cooking a new dish.
Or visiting a museum or aquarium.
Or driving somewhere you’ve never been.
Or trying a new hair color or nail color.
Or skydiving. Or parasailing.
Or traveling to a new city, state, or country.
Or simply saying “yes” to something different.
Because a life lived fully isn’t measured only by its length.
It’s measured by the richness of what we experience—and the depth of what we allow ourselves to feel.
Here’s to adding a little more texture to our lives.
Until next time...Root. Rise. Reign.
